PayPal Fee Calculator

The calculator applies one percentage and one fixed fee to the amount: fee = amount × rate ÷ 100 + fixed fee. The defaults, 3.49% + $0.49, match PayPal's US rate for PayPal Checkout payments as of October 2026. On $100:

• Processing fee: $3.98
• You receive: $96.02
• Charge this to net 100: $104.12, the amount to bill if you need the full $100 to land in your account

The third line uses (amount + fixed fee) ÷ (1 − rate). The fee is charged on whatever the buyer pays, so you can't just add $3.98 to the price; the extra $3.98 attracts a fee of its own.

PayPal charges different rates depending on how you are paid. The fields are editable, so set them to match the payment type. US commercial rates as of October 2026, where the fixed fee for US dollars is $0.49:

PayPal invoices use the same Checkout, card and Pay Later rates, plus a Pay by Bank option at 1% capped at $10. The calculator has no cap, so for an invoice paid by bank, enter 1% and $0 for amounts up to $1,000, and 0% with a $10 fixed fee above that. A $2,000 invoice then shows a $10 fee, not $20.

Extra fees apply to international payments and currency conversion. As of October 2026, PayPal adds 1.50% to international commercial transactions, so a Checkout payment from abroad would be 4.99% + $0.49. Conversion between currencies carries its own spread on top.

The $0.49 fixed fee is the same on every payment, so it weighs heavily on small amounts. At the Checkout rate:

If you sell low-priced items, minimum order values or bundles can cut how many fixed fees you pay. A customer buying four $5 items in one $20 payment costs you $1.19 in fees; four separate payments cost $2.64.

Use the third line when a client owes you a set amount and has agreed to cover the fee. Enter what you need to receive, then bill the figure shown. Round it up to the next cent: $104.12 leaves you $99.996, which shows as $100 but is a fraction of a cent short. Billing $104.13 leaves at least $100.

Whether you can pass PayPal fees on to a buyer is a matter of your agreement with them and any rules that apply to you, so check before adding a fee line to invoices. Whichever way you go, the fee recorded in your books is what PayPal actually charged, which you can confirm in the transaction details.
