Business Days Calculator

Count the working days (excluding weekends) between two dates — useful for SLAs, delivery and project planning.

Both the start and end dates are counted

The tool walks through every date from the start date to the end date, including both, and sorts each one into a weekday (Monday to Friday) or a weekend day (Saturday or Sunday). You get three numbers: business days, weekend days and total days.

The start date begins as 1 January 2000, so change it before reading the result. Some examples from October 2026:

RangeBusiness daysWeekend daysTotal days
Mon 19 Oct to Mon 19 Oct101
Mon 19 Oct to Fri 23 Oct505
Fri 23 Oct to Mon 26 Oct224
Mon 19 Oct to Fri 30 Oct10212

Because both ends count, a single Monday is one business day, and Monday to Friday is five. A date difference tool would call that same Monday-to-Friday span four days, since it measures the gap rather than the days inside it.

Public holidays are not taken out

The only days the tool excludes are Saturdays and Sundays. Holidays differ by country, state and employer, so they are left for you to remove.

Take 21 December 2026 to 1 January 2027. The tool shows 10 business days. Christmas Day falls on Friday 25 December and New Year's Day on Friday 1 January, and both are counted as working days. If your office is closed on both, the real figure is 8.

A quick routine for any range:

  1. Run the dates through the tool.
  2. List the holidays your organisation observes in that range.
  3. Subtract only the ones that fall on a weekday. A holiday on a Saturday is already outside the count, unless your employer gives a substitute day off on the Friday or Monday.

Turning the count into a deadline

Service levels, delivery promises and notice periods are often written as "within 5 business days". The tool counts days between two dates; it doesn't add days to a date. To find the deadline, set the start date and move the end date forward until the business-day figure matches.

Watch the first day. Since the tool includes the start date, a request that arrives on Monday 19 October with a 5-day turnaround shows 5 business days by Friday 23 October. If your rule says the clock starts the day after receipt, set the start to Tuesday 20 October instead, and the fifth business day becomes Monday 26 October.

For a whole month of planning, use the 1st and the last day as the range. November 2026, from 1 to 30 November, has 21 business days and 9 weekend days before any holidays.

Frequently asked questions

How many working days are there in October 2026?+

22 weekdays and 9 weekend days, from 1 October to 31 October. Subtract any public holidays your workplace observes in October to get the final figure.

How many business days are there in 2026?+

From 1 January to 31 December 2026 the tool counts 261 weekdays and 104 weekend days. That is before any public holidays are removed.

What happens if the end date is before the start date?+

All three figures show zero. Unlike the date difference and age tools, this one doesn't swap the dates for you, so put the earlier date first.

Can I set a different weekend, such as Friday and Saturday?+

No. The tool always treats Saturday and Sunday as the weekend. If your working week is different, or you work part-time, count the days with a calendar instead.
