Days Until Date Calculator

Count down the days, hours and minutes until a future date or event.

Pick a target date to start the countdown.

A live countdown to a date and time you pick

Pick a target date and a time and the tool shows the days, hours, minutes and seconds left, updating every second. The target is read in your device's own time zone, and the clock it counts from is your device's clock.

The time of day changes the result. Say it is 10:00 on Monday 19 October 2026:

  • Target 25 December 2026 at 00:00, the first moment of Christmas Day: 66 days, 14 hours, 0 minutes.
  • Checked again at 18:30 that evening, with the target set to a meeting at 09:00 the next morning: 0 days, 14 hours, 30 minutes.

For "how many days until" a day, set the time to 00:00. For a flight, an exam or a launch, enter the real start time so the hours line means something.

Why the days figure can be one lower than a calendar count

The days number here is the count of full 24-hour periods left, not a count of dates. In the example above, a date calculator says 19 October to 25 December is 67 days. The countdown shows 66 days and 14 hours, because it is mid-morning and the last part-day hasn't been used up.

A clock change in between also shows up. The countdown measures real elapsed time, so if your clocks go back an hour before the target date, there is one more hour to wait. From 10:00 on 19 October to midnight on 25 December, a device set to New York time shows 66 days, 15 hours, because New York's clocks change in between. The same countdown on a device set to India time shows 66 days, 14 hours.

Counting down to an event in another time zone

Because the target is read as your local time, an event that is fixed in another city needs converting first. If a sale opens at 09:00 in New York and you are in London, entering 09:00 would count down to 09:00 London time, several hours too early.

Find the local equivalent with the Time Zone Converter on this site, then enter that time here.

When the date has already passed

Pick a date in the past and the heading changes from Time remaining to Time since, and the numbers count up instead of down. From 10:00 on 19 October 2026, the time since the start of 1 January 2026 is 291 days, 10 hours.

This makes the page useful for "how long has it been" questions too: days since a project started, since you stopped smoking or since a last service. For a whole number of calendar days without hours, the Date Difference Calculator gives a cleaner answer.

Frequently asked questions

Does the countdown keep running if I close the tab?+

Nothing is saved. When you come back you need to pick the target again, and the tool recalculates from your device's clock at that moment, so the figure is still right.

What if my computer's clock is wrong?+

The countdown is only as accurate as the device it runs on. If your clock is five minutes fast, the countdown reaches zero five minutes early. Letting your device set its time automatically avoids this.

Can I set a countdown that repeats every year, such as a birthday?+

No. It counts to one specific date and time. After the birthday passes, choose next year's date to start a new countdown.
