Stripe Fee Calculator

The defaults are Stripe's standard US pricing as of October 2026: 2.9% + 30¢ per successful domestic card charge. The calculator works out fee = amount × 2.9% + $0.30 and subtracts it. On a $100 charge the fee is $3.20 and you receive $96.80.

The third line, labelled Charge this to net followed by your amount, answers the reverse question: what to charge so that $100 is left after the fee. For $100 it shows $103.30.

Results drop trailing zeros, so $96.80 appears as $96.8 and $3.20 as $3.2.

Stripe adds percentage points to the standard rate in three situations, as of October 2026: +1.5% for international cards, +1% when currency conversion is needed, and +0.5% for card details typed in manually. The calculator applies a single rate, so add the extras to the percentage field yourself:

Keep the 30¢ fixed fee in every row. If a large share of your customers pay from abroad, work out a blended rate from your own payment mix rather than budgeting at 2.9%. Stripe's pricing page lists other payment methods with their own rates, which you can enter in the same way.

The obvious way to pass on a $3.20 fee is to charge $103.20. But Stripe takes its percentage from the whole $103.20, so the fee becomes $3.29 and you receive $99.91.

The calculator's third line solves this properly with (amount + $0.30) ÷ (1 − 0.029). For $100 that is $103.30, and charging $103.30 leaves exactly $100 after a $3.30 fee. The gap is only 9 cents here, but it grows with the amount: to net $250, the obvious method would charge $257.55, while the calculator shows $257.78.

Before you add a fee line for customers, check the rules that apply to your business and your Stripe agreement. Many businesses build the fee into their prices instead.

For a subscription, the 30¢ fixed fee is charged on every payment, so the billing interval changes your total fees. A $20-a-month plan:

Annual billing saves $3.30 per customer per year in fees here, all of it from the eleven fixed fees you don't pay. The same logic applies to instalments: three $100 payments cost $9.60 in fees, one $300 payment costs $9.00. On small charges the fixed fee dominates: a $10 charge pays $0.59, which is 5.9% of the amount.
