EPF Calculator

Estimate your Employees' Provident Fund corpus at retirement (58), combining your contribution and the employer's EPF share with compound interest.

What goes into the projection each month

Your EPF account receives two amounts every month: your own contribution (12% of basic + DA, or more if you opt for voluntary PF) and the part of your employer's 12% that is left after 8.33% goes to the pension scheme (EPS). On ceiling wages that leftover is 3.67%. The calculator adds your percentage and 3.67% of the basic you enter, compounds the total monthly at the rate you choose, and stops at 58.

With the default inputs, ₹40,000 basic + DA, age 30, 12% contribution and 8.25% interest, the monthly deposit is ₹6,268. Over 28 years you and your employer put in ₹21,06,048 and the projected corpus at 58 is ₹82,57,301, of which ₹61,51,253 is interest. The EPS share builds your pension, not this balance, so it is not shown.

The ₹25,000 wage ceiling: take-home vs PF

The mandatory PF wage ceiling rose from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 a month on 17 September 2026, the first change since 2014. It affects you in one of two ways.

  • Basic between ₹15,000 and ₹25,000. PF is now compulsory if you were outside it. On a ₹20,000 basic, your take-home falls by ₹2,400 a month (12%), your employer adds ₹734 to EPF, and ₹3,134 goes into the account. Kept up from age 25 to 58 at 8.25%, that builds about ₹64,61,276.
  • Basic above ₹25,000, with PF restricted to the ceiling. Your contribution rises from ₹1,800 (12% of ₹15,000) to ₹3,000 (12% of ₹25,000), so take-home drops by ₹1,200 a month and your PF grows by the same amount plus the employer's extra share.

The calculator does not apply the ceiling. It uses the full basic you enter. If your payslip shows PF worked out on ₹25,000 rather than your full basic, enter ₹25,000: the default case then projects ₹51,60,813 instead of ₹82,57,301. If your employer contributes on your full basic, EPS is still capped at the ceiling wages, so more than 3.67% of your basic reaches EPF and the calculator slightly understates your balance.

Interest rate and the EPF Scheme, 2026

EPF interest was 8.25% for both FY 2024-25 and FY 2025-26. The rate is declared once a year, so the calculator's single flat rate for decades is an assumption, not a promise. Try 8% and 8.5% to see the range.

From 1 July 2026 the EPF Scheme, 1952 was replaced by the EPF Scheme, 2026 under the Code on Social Security. The partial-withdrawal changes approved by the CBT in October 2025, reported to be carried into the new scheme, group withdrawals into three categories, need 12 months of service and require you to leave 25% of your balance in the account. With ₹8,00,000 in your account, at least ₹2,00,000 stays put. Any withdrawal also lowers the final figure, which the calculator cannot show.

When EPF interest becomes taxable

Interest on employee contributions (including voluntary PF) above ₹2.5 lakh a year is taxable. The limit is ₹5 lakh where there is no employer contribution. At 12%, you cross ₹2.5 lakh only with a basic above about ₹1,73,611 a month. At the calculator's maximum of 25%, the line is about ₹83,333 a month.

Below those levels the projection is close to what you would actually receive. Above them, part of the interest is taxed every year, so the real corpus will be lower than the figure shown.

Frequently asked questions

What happens to my EPF corpus if I contribute more than 12%?+

The extra goes in as voluntary PF and earns the same rate. In this calculator only your share rises; the employer share stays at 3.67%. With a ₹40,000 basic from age 30, moving from 12% to 20% lifts the projection from ₹82,57,301 to ₹1,24,72,899.

Why is my actual EPF balance lower than the calculator shows?+

Common reasons are PF worked out on capped wages rather than your full basic, years spent outside PF, past withdrawals, and interest rates that changed over time. The calculator also assumes your basic never rises, which works in the other direction.

Does the EPF calculator include my EPS pension?+

No. The 8.33% that goes to EPS funds a monthly pension, not a lump sum, so it is left out of the corpus. Treat the result as your provident fund balance only.
