PNG to JPG Converter

Convert PNG images to JPG instantly in your browser — smaller files, no upload, no watermark.

Transparent areas turn black

JPG has no alpha channel, so every pixel has to have a solid colour. This converter draws your PNG onto a blank canvas and saves it as JPG without painting a background first. When a browser saves a canvas to a format without transparency, the HTML standard has it composite the image onto black. So a logo on a transparent background comes out on a black rectangle, and black text on a transparent PNG can vanish entirely.

Ways around it:

  • Add a white (or any colour) layer behind the image in an editor, export that as PNG, then convert.
  • If you need a smaller file but want to keep the transparency, use PNG to WebP instead.

A PNG without transparency, such as a photo or a screenshot, is not affected.

Quality is fixed at 92%

There's no slider on this page. Every JPG is saved at quality 0.92 on the browser's 0 to 1 scale, which keeps visible loss low. If the result is still too large, use the Image Compressor: it also turns PNG into JPG, with a quality slider from 10 to 95 (75 by default). You can skip this converter and go straight there. The black-background rule applies there too.

Which PNGs make good JPGs

JPG compression is designed for photographs: smooth gradients, skin, sky, foliage. A photo that was saved as PNG usually shrinks a lot.

Screenshots, diagrams, charts and anything with small text are a different story. JPG blurs sharp edges and can leave faint halos around letters and lines, and with large flat areas of colour the saving may be small. The tool shows the old and new size after converting, so check it. If the JPG isn't much smaller, or the text looks smudged, keep the PNG.

What stays the same and what doesn't

  • Pixel dimensions don't change.
  • The file name stays the same, with .jpg at the end.
  • Any text or metadata chunks inside the PNG are not copied, because the JPG is written fresh from the canvas pixels.
  • Everything happens in your browser; the PNG is never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert PNG to JPG without losing any quality?+

No. JPG is always lossy, so some information is discarded even at a high setting. If you need a pixel-perfect copy, keep the PNG.

Is there a difference between .jpg and .jpeg?+

No, they are two spellings of the same format. This tool saves with .jpg, and any program that opens .jpeg files will open it.

Can I convert a whole folder of PNGs?+

Not here. The converter takes one image at a time, so pick the next file after each download.

Why would I convert PNG to JPG at all?+

Usually for size or compatibility: some upload forms only accept JPG, and photos stored as PNG are much heavier than they need to be.
