Radians to Degrees Converter
Convert radians to degrees instantly and accurately. 1 rad = 57.2958 °. Type any value below — the result updates as you type.
How to convert radians to degrees
1 rad = 57.2958 °. To convert radians to degrees, multiply the value by 57.2958.
Example: 10 rad × 57.2958 = 572.96 °.
Going the other way, 1 ° = 0.017453 rad.

Making sense of angles that come out of code
Most programming languages, spreadsheets in their trig functions, and game or robotics libraries return angles in radians. This page turns those values into degrees you can read at a glance. Two examples using the output of atan2:
atan2(1, 1)returns 0.785398, which converts to 45°.atan2(-1, -1)returns −2.356194, which converts to −135°.
The converter keeps the sign and does not wrap results into 0–360°. If you need a compass-style bearing, add 360 to any negative answer: −135° becomes 225°. Values beyond a full turn also stay as they are, so 1000 rad converts to 57295.78°.
The same applies to a calculator left in radian mode. If sin⁻¹(0.5) returns 0.523599 instead of 30, it is in RAD mode; converting the answer here gives 30°, and switching the calculator to DEG avoids the step next time.
Typing fractions of π
The input field reads numbers, including plain fractions such as 3/4, but not the symbol π or the word pi. Typing pi/2 or π/3 brings up a note that the number couldn't be read. Enter the decimal value instead, with at least six decimal places so the rounding of π does not show in the answer:
| Angle | Type this | Degrees |
|---|---|---|
| π/6 | 0.523599 | 30 |
| π/4 | 0.785398 | 45 |
| π/3 | 1.047198 | 60 |
| π/2 | 1.570796 | 90 |
| π | 3.141593 | 180 |
| 2π | 6.283185 | 360 |
With only four decimals the small error becomes visible: 0.7854 gives 45.0001° and 1.5708 gives 90.0002°.
Mental math: just under 60
One radian is 180/π, about 57.2958°. For a quick sense of size, think of a radian as a bit less than 60°. Multiplying by 60 overstates the angle by 4.7%. Multiplying by 57.3 is good to 0.007%, close enough for any sketch or sanity check: 1.5 rad × 57.3 = 85.95°, and the converter gives 85.9437°.
Where the remaining error comes from
The converter multiplies by 180/π computed from π itself, not by a rounded copy such as 57.2958, so the factor adds no error you could see. Results between 1 and 100 show four decimals and larger ones show two, which is why 1000 rad reads 57295.78°.
Any visible error comes from the radian value you type. Six decimals, as in the table above, keep the answer within about 0.00006° of the true angle. Two decimals do not: 0.79 for π/4 converts to 45.2637°, more than a quarter of a degree out. For code, multiply by 180 / Math.PI inside the expression rather than pasting a rounded factor.

Frequently asked questions
How many degrees is 1 radian?+
1 radian is 180/π degrees, which the converter shows as 57.2958°. Half a radian is 28.6479° and 2 radians is 114.59°.
Can I convert radians to gradians or arcminutes?+
Yes. Change the To menu. 1 radian shows as 63.662 gradians or 3437.75 arcminutes.
Does it work for angular speed in radians per second?+
Yes, the same factor converts rad/s to degrees per second. The time part does not change, so 2 rad/s becomes 114.59°/s. For revolutions per minute, use a frequency converter instead.
How do I convert degrees back to radians?+
Press the swap button, or divide by 57.2958. 30° becomes 0.5236 rad and 90° becomes 1.5708 rad.
