Internship Certificate Generator
Generate a clean internship completion certificate with role, duration and projects.
Certificate, completion letter or experience letter
| Document | Who it's for | What it says |
|---|---|---|
| Internship certificate | Anyone: future employers, portfolios | The intern completed an internship in a stated role and period, usually "To Whomsoever It May Concern" |
| Internship completion letter | The college, often addressed to the HOD or training cell | Dates, total duration, project, supervisor and sometimes attendance, so the college can award credit |
| Experience letter | Future employers | Employment as a staff member, with designation and tenure. Not normally issued for internships unless the intern was on the payroll |
If the student needs the document for academic credit, the completion letter addressed to the college is usually the safer choice. Many companies issue both: a general certificate and a college letter.
What colleges usually ask for
Requirements vary by university, so ask the student for their college's internship guidelines or format. Common requests:
- Exact dates and total duration in weeks or hours, because many programmes set a minimum.
- Project title and a short description that matches the project report the student submits.
- Supervisor's name, designation and contact, since faculty sometimes call or email to check.
- Company letterhead, signature and seal, and sometimes an original hard copy, not only a PDF.
- The college's own forms, such as an attendance sheet or evaluation form signed by the supervisor.
What to include
- The intern's full name as in college records, plus course and enrolment number.
- Role and team, and whether the internship was on-site, remote or hybrid.
- Start and end dates. If the internship was extended or cut short, use the actual dates.
- Project and two or three specific tasks or tools. "Worked on marketing" tells the reader nothing.
- Supervisor name and contact, and a named signatory.
- A certificate number you also record internally, so anyone verifying later can quote it.
A performance remark is optional. If you add one, keep it specific and true.
Sample: completion letter addressed to the college
The generator above produces a general "To Whomsoever It May Concern" internship certificate with dates, role, projects and a standard line on conduct. The sample below is the version for academic credit: it is addressed to the Head of Department, quotes the enrolment number, gives the total weeks and work mode, names the supervisor, lists specific tasks, records attendance and adds a certificate number and verification contact.
How students can request one
Ask about two weeks before your last day, not after you've left. Email your supervisor and copy HR, and include everything they need so nobody has to look it up:
- Your full name as it should appear, course, college and enrolment number.
- Your exact start and end dates and the project title as in your report.
- Your college's format or form, if it has one, and whether it must be addressed to someone specific.
- Whether you need a hard copy with seal, a PDF, or both, and the date your college needs it by.
When you receive it, check the spelling of your name and the dates before you submit it anywhere.
Frequently asked questions
Is a certificate from a remote internship accepted?+
Most colleges accept it if it shows the dates, project, supervisor and a verifiable company contact. Stating the work mode as remote in the letter avoids questions later. Check your college's guidelines, since a few programmes require on-site work for credit.
Is an unpaid internship certificate valid?+
Yes. Whether you received a stipend doesn't change what the certificate confirms. The letter doesn't need to mention pay at all unless your college or a future employer asks for it.
Can I get a letter before the internship ends?+
Companies can issue a letter confirming an ongoing internship, stating the start date and the expected end date. Colleges usually still want the final completion letter afterwards, so treat the interim letter as a stopgap.
What if the company doesn't respond or has closed?+
Follow up with your supervisor directly, since they can often get HR to act. If the company has closed, ask your college what it accepts instead, such as your offer letter, the email trail with your supervisor, stipend payment records and your project report.
