Meters to Millimeters Converter
Convert meters to millimeters instantly and accurately. 1 m = 1000 mm. Type any value below β the result updates as you type.
How to convert meters to millimeters
1 m = 1000 mm. To convert meters to millimeters, multiply the value by 1000.
Example: 10 m Γ 1000 = 10000 mm.
Going the other way, 1 mm = 0.001 m.

Why drawings and cutting lists use millimeters
Builders, joiners, kitchen fitters and CAD users usually work in millimeters even for large objects, because whole millimeters avoid decimals. A wall measured as 3.6 m on a site sketch becomes 3600 mm on the drawing, and a 2.4 m board becomes 2400 mm on the cutting list.
The conversion multiplies by 1,000, which moves the decimal point three places to the right. When the meter value has fewer than three decimals, fill the gap with zeros:
| Meters | Millimeters |
|---|---|
| 2.1 | 2100 |
| 1.05 | 1050 |
| 0.85 | 850 |
| 0.075 | 75 |
| 0.012 | 12 |
The dropped-zero mistake
The error that costs the most material is losing a zero. 1.05 m is 1050 mm, but it is easy to write 105 mm, which is ten times too short. The reverse happens too: 0.6 m written as 6000 mm instead of 600 mm.
Two habits catch it:
- Count the digits. Anything between 1 m and 10 m is a four-digit number of millimeters.
- Say it aloud. "One meter and fifty millimeters" is 1050 mm. "One hundred and five millimeters" is about the width of a hand.
If a dimension is half-written in each unit, such as "1 m 20", it is ambiguous. It usually means 1.20 m (1200 mm), but confirm before cutting, since some people mean 1 m and 20 mm.
How many decimals to keep
For building and furniture work, whole millimeters are the finest anyone marks with a pencil, so a value like 1234.5 mm normally rounds to 1235 or 1234 depending on whether the piece must fit inside a gap or cover one. Round down for a part that slides into an opening and up for a part that has to overlap.
The converter shows up to two decimal places for results of 100 mm or more and four below that, so 1.2345 m reads 1234.5 mm and nothing is hidden. Fractions of a millimeter only matter for machining and printing, where the drawing will say what tolerance it wants.

Frequently asked questions
How many mm are in a meter?+
Exactly 1,000. A centimeter sits in between: 1 m is 100 cm, and each centimeter is 10 mm.
What is 1.5 meters in mm?+
1.5 m is 1500 mm. Move the decimal point three places right and add the missing zeros.
How do I convert millimeters back to meters?+
Divide by 1,000, or press the swap button to reverse the converter. 2400 mm becomes 2.4 m.
My metric tape is numbered in centimeters. How do I read millimeters on it?+
Each numbered mark is a centimeter and each small tick is a millimeter, so add a zero to the centimeter number and then count the ticks. A cut at 2400 mm is the 240 mark, and 1050 mm is the 105 mark exactly.
