Square Feet to Square Meters Converter

A foot is 0.3048 m, but a square foot is 0.3048 × 0.3048 = 0.09290304 m² exactly, which the result box shows as 0.092903. The most common mistake on this conversion is multiplying square feet by 0.3048, the length factor. Do that to a 1,000 ft² apartment and you get 304.8 m², more than three times the real 92.903 m².

The rule holds for any area: the length factor gets squared because the area has two dimensions. If you measured a room in feet, you can either multiply the two sides first and convert the square feet here, or convert each side to meters and multiply. A 12 × 14 ft room comes out at 15.6077 m² either way.

When you compare listings from two countries, check what each one measures. Some include walls, balconies or shared areas and some don't, and that can matter more than the unit.

Dividing by 10 is tempting, and it overstates the square meters by 7.64%. A 1,500 ft² house becomes 150 m² instead of 139.35. For a rough idea that's tolerable. For a rent comparison it is not.

Dividing by 10.76 is within 0.04%. If you have a calculator, multiply by 0.093 instead, which is 0.1% high.

As for the tool's own output, it shows 5 significant figures below 1 m², 4 decimals up to 100 m² and 2 decimals above. Listings round to the whole square meter, and a room plan rarely needs more than one decimal.

Price and rent go the opposite way from area. A square meter is bigger than a square foot, so the price per square meter is higher. Divide by 0.092903, or multiply by 10.7639:

• $300 per ft² is $3,229.17 per m².
• A rent of $2.50 per ft² a month is $26.91 per m² a month.

If you multiply by 0.092903 instead, $300 per ft² turns into $27.87 per m², which looks like a bargain because it is wrong.
