Italic Text Generator
Convert text into ππ‘ππππ unicode for bios, captions and comments on any platform.
Slanted look-alike letters from a maths character set
Unicode includes a set of italic letters meant for writing variables in equations. This generator replaces each basic Latin letter with its counterpart from that set, so a becomes π (U+1D44E). The result is plain text that looks italic in most fonts, which is why it keeps its slant in places with no formatting options, such as a bio, a caption or a comment.
Type Hello World 2026 and you get π»ππππ πππππ 2026.
Why digits stay upright and h looks different
Two quirks of the italic set show up in the output:
- No italic digits. Unicode's maths sets include bold digits but not italic ones, so numbers are left as they are. That is why 2026 above stays upright. If a slanted number matters, write it out as a word.
- The letter h. The italic block has a gap where h should be, because an italic h already existed elsewhere in Unicode as the Planck constant symbol,
β(U+210E). The generator uses that character, sothe hitchhikerbecomesπ‘βπ βππ‘πββππππ. In some fonts this h is drawn from a different design and looks a little out of line with its neighbours.
Accented and non-Latin letters are also left alone, so CafΓ© turns into πΆππΓ© with an upright Γ© at the end.
Before you post italic text
Italic letters from the maths block are separate characters, and that has side effects worth knowing:
- A screen reader may skip them or read them out character by character, so don't put the only copy of important information in italics.
- People searching a page or feed for the plain word may not find the italic version.
- A device without a font that covers these characters shows blank boxes.
- Each italic letter except h counts as 2 in the βcharacters outβ total under the box, so
hellocomes out as 9, not 5.
Italics work well for a short aside, a book or film title in a caption, or a quoted phrase. They work badly for long passages, which become hard to read on small screens.
Frequently asked questions
Can I paste italic text into a username?+
Many sites only allow plain letters, numbers and a few symbols in usernames and will reject these characters or strip them out. Display names and bios are usually more permissive than handles, so try those instead.
How do I turn italic text back to normal?+
There is no reverse button, because the italic letters are different characters, not formatting. Keep a copy of your original text, or retype it, if you need the plain version later.
Why are some letters in my text not italic?+
Only the 26 basic Latin letters, in upper and lower case, have italic versions in this set. Accented letters, digits, punctuation and other alphabets stay as typed, so a word like naΓ―ve keeps an upright Γ―.
