Text Repeater
Repeat any word, sentence or block of text as many times as you want, with optional separators.
The three settings and their defaults
- Text to repeat: anything from one character to several paragraphs. It is copied exactly, including any spaces or line breaks at its start or end.
- Repeat count: how many copies you want. It starts at 5.
- Separator: what goes between copies. It starts as
\n, which means a new line. Type\tfor a tab, or anything else you like, such as a comma and a space.
The separator only goes between copies, never after the last one. With Hi, a count of 3 and the separator , , you get Hi, Hi, Hi, with no trailing comma.
Examples with different separators
| Text | Count | Separator | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hi | 3 | \n | Hi Hi Hi |
| Hi | 3 | (empty) | HiHiHi |
| Hi | 4 | \t | four Hi's separated by tabs, one row in a spreadsheet |
| Hi (with a trailing space) | 3 | (empty) | Hi Hi Hi, plus a space at the end |
The last row shows a common slip. If you want spaces between copies, put the space in the separator box, not after your text, or the result will end with an extra space.
When the text itself spans several lines and the separator is something short, the separator lands between the end of one copy and the start of the next, on the same line.
Uses beyond novelty messages
- Testing length limits. Repeat
x500 times with an empty separator to get exactly 500 characters, then paste it into a form to see where it cuts off. - Placeholder rows. Repeat a template line, such as a CSV row, to fill a test file quickly.
- Spreadsheet setup. A tab separator spreads copies across columns, a new line puts them down a column.
- Practice sheets. Repeat a word or sentence for handwriting or typing drills.
Counts that give no result, and very large outputs
A count of 0, a negative number or an empty count box gives an empty result. Decimals are cut down to a whole number, so 2.7 gives 2 copies. An empty text box also gives nothing, whatever the count.
The count box is meant for values up to 10,000, and the whole result is built in your browser. Large counts of long text add up fast: hello world repeated 10,000 times with a space separator is 119,999 characters, which may slow the page down or be too long for wherever you plan to paste it.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my result say \n instead of starting a new line?+
Only the exact sequences backslash-n and backslash-t are turned into a line break and a tab. Check that you typed a backslash, not a forward slash, and that there is no space between the backslash and the letter.
Will sending repeated text get my account flagged?+
It can. Many chat and social apps treat floods of identical messages or very long repeated text as spam. Keep repeated text for testing, drafts and documents rather than sending it to people.
Can I number each copy automatically?+
Not here. Repeat your text with a new-line separator, then paste the result into the add line numbers tool to put 1., 2., 3. in front of each copy.
